The Insects At Camp Are Terrible ,What Should I Do?

The Insects At Camp Are Horrible And You Need To Do Something

  • I was at our leased Hunting camp one year and the property owners had had several large sections of pine cut and this seems to have caused an imbalance in the natural order of things as the insects seemed to have been just plain out pissed off and out for revenge and they wanted blood and the more I gave them the more they demanded .
  • It was a terrible time coping with them and it seemed as if there was no way of dealing with them other than to get drunk which I would have done anyways but at least now I had a good excuse  .
  • I considered a few well placed shotgun blasts with bird shot but taking out only a few hundred insects at a time would have been a waste of good ammo.
  • It was mid summer and strange to be there as it was completely silent for 5 days which was really strange because the camp is in an area that has a small population but usually has 15 cars or so cars pass by on the paved road out front of camp each day and this time there were none for a whole week , I later realized that the people that lived in the area knew better than to stay at that time of year .
  • With 440 acres there’s plenty of quiet to be had by going into the back areas of camp but this time was unusual as there is typically some noise of some sort in the region .
  • It was the first week or August and dreadfully hot and a bizarre dry humidity if there is such a thing .
  • It’s the way the weather is in the deep south before it rains and the longer it stays like that the more it’s going to rain which is what it did .
  • The timber company had taken out about 160 acres of trees in various stages several months previous and had then sprayed herbicide using a helicopter so the entire property had a stark morbid appearance which made staying there all the more reminiscent of a stay at a nuclear test site .
  • Several weeks before this stay they had flown over camp while most of the camp members were there and they began to unleash a hail storm of what we found out to be nitrogen pellets ,flying around camp repeatedly dropping so much that when I later inspected it I found that the entire 440 acres had been so thoroughly covered that each individual nitrogen pellet was butted up against the next like soldiers shoulder to shoulder even at the far reaches of the camp.
  • I had never seen anything like this before and it quickly explained why the rivers , lakes and streams are so polluted .
  • For months after there was a green slime growing everywhere , all the streams were green with slime , the road sides were slimed ,It was like the Creep Show Movie and this alien meteor lands at a house out in the woods and green slime takes over everything .
  • It was weeks after this that I came back and stayed at camp and was subjected to the Wrath Of Insects .
  • After 4 days of intense swarming around me without let up in horrible heat and the strange dry humidity it finally let loose with a torrential 3 day downpour that trapped me at camp because the drive would have been to difficult to make to get back home .
  • The good thing was that the rain did help to squelch the heat and it did drown most of the insects so the day after the rains stopped it was almost livable at a mere 90 degrees instead of the 100 degrees that I had suffered through for days on end .
  • The next summer was better in that the vegetation began to grow back and there seemed to be less insects to deal with but it wasn’t a paradise by any means but i did notice that there were now more birds around and there were also bird nests in the outhouse and the rafters of the camp structures and would see Dragon flies flying about .
  • The dragonflies were coming from a small deep pond that the loggers had dug near the edge of the main camp which I had seen the previous year and worried about the possibility of it causing an influx of mosquito’s breeding in it but it turned out that the dragonflies had taken care of them .
  • The next year came about and what a relief , I went down  late June and the insects were nothing like the previous years plus I think it was because of all the vegetation that had regrown along with an arrival of far more birds than the year before .
  • At dusk there were now a large number of bats flying around camp and down the various lanes and dirt roads throughout camp which I believe was the leading factor in the destruction of the insects.

Should You Use Insecticides At Hunt Camp

  • I have to say no and that you are better off trying to deal with them in a more environmentally friendly way because you are trying to hunt for your food source and it doesn’t make sense to poison it first unless you just like the taste of poisons for some strange reason.
  • Possibly you were teethed on lead based window sill paint as a child and still like toxins.
  • Your parents put you in their running Station Wagon in the garage in the middle of winter several hours before you actually went to the store with them shopping.
  • You loved to chew on strike style matches that were everywhere back in the good old days when everyone smoked .
  • You ate Kraft macaroni and cheese back then and you still like it now.

Red Ants Attack

Fire Ants

Fire ants bite and sting. They are aggressive when stinging and inject venom, which causes a burning sensation. Red bumps form at the sting, and within a day or two they become white fluid-filled pustules.

Red Imported Fire Ants

Red imported fire ants (RIFAs, for short) get their common name from their ability to inflict painful bites and stings. These dark reddish-brown ants are an invasive species found throughout the southern part of the U.S. Keep reading to learn more red ant facts, including information on red ant bites and more.

Red ants Vs Fire Ants

One way to distinguish fire ants from other red ants is that they have a 2-segmented pedicel, which looks like two bumps on the 'waist' of the ant—the area between the thorax and abdomen.
